ADOPT A SWINE HERD IS:
Welcome! This website will give you our answers to some eco-questions: "How do you attend, by watching them close, family farm animals (i.e. pigs) downtown Milan or Rome on open pasture, from organic agriculture? How do you make sure your storeroom is filled with high quality organic cold meats and salami which come from those family farms just mentioned above without taking the car out of your garage and then heading toward the shopping mall? We think we have the answer. And our answer is the THE E-BREEDING SYSTEM!. From the New Oxford Dictionary of English we selected the second of the accepted meanings of the verb "adopt": to choose, take on or assume, accept (a responsibility for), to follow (something especially an idea, method or course of action) in our specific case: to choose and follow organic, free-ranging herds of pigs. So our key words to you are: choose and adopt an ethic behaviour toward meat consumption, less quantity for a much higher quality, organically certified. The E-Breeding System: "Adopt a swine" project For us who invented and are now daily operating the e-breeding System (organic breeding through the internet) "choose" is the key word that leads to a new relationship with those animals which through time and cultures have represented our food. Nature, as usual, can be a wise teacher for those who're willing to learn: mushrooms represent an interesting example when it comes to explain the philosophy that inspired our unique idea. Symbiont mushrooms (a "symbiosis" is an interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both) choose and adopt an essence, let's say a chestnut or a pine tree and live by it, acting together in complete cooperation. Through centuries pigs, above all animals have been a vital part of our lives, truly a symbiotic species to human beings. Swines have guaranteed an extraordinary source of nutritional energy, undisputedly a primary point of food reference: a sought-after delicacy, a star of our tables. In exchange, through the centuries, and in many areas of the planet, swineherds have been tendering to those animals. A precious animal indeed, a life granting goddess. No portions of a swine was to be rejected. An approach still valid nowadays, each part a different usage: meat, fat, hide, bristles. "Adopt a swine" a project originated in Mantua The e-breeding (organic breeding through the internet) staff is all from the city of Mantua, ruled by the Gonzaga family during the Renaissance period and today home of the swine breeding and delicatessen products. In the old times, Mantua together with Parma, Reggio, Modena, Piacenza were used as a sort of "urban pasture", nearly invaded by the pigs acting as "garbage collectors' forerunners". That was the time when the Northern planes were covered by great oak forests, producing large amounts of acorns, the pigs' favourite food. Swines used to confer value to the woods, the latter being appraised by the market according to the number of pigs that could pasture there. And for the said grazing a "ghiandatico" (pasture related fee) was paid. Back in the old days, you could spot thousands of free-ranging, pasturing pigs and their swineherds tendering to them. And the little towns of the Po River Valley so rich in oak tree forests (unfortunately but a memory now) were home of pork-butcher's. These little towns originated products like culatello (choice cut of ham made from loin of pork), prosciutto, salame, cotechino (kind of spiced Italian sausage), truly food masterpieces, benefiting from the fog, so typical of the Po River Valley and so much needed in order for the products to have the proper percentage of moisture. All the above said, couldn't we think of project about swine breeding? "Adopt a swine" is dedicated to swines, which we want to be happily free-ranging, organically fed on. So the first project of www.e-breeding.com is www.adottaunsuino.com. In favour of an ethical, symbiotic cooperation Wherever men tender organically fed, free-ranging swineherds, there we intend to enhance a more "democratic" and ethical symbiotic cooperation with these animals. Nowadays this symbiosis is seldom applied, often dismissed in favour of industrialized factory farming a merely profit-oriented operation. Yet, in our opinion when it comes to any human action or activity such us breeding profit cannot represent the only yardstick. There comes a time and that time is now when we need to start talking about business values and sustainability. Our proposal You can choose to take action, get involved, become a responsible consumer of swine meat (in our proposal we selected exclusively food products obtained according to "beyond-organic", agriculturally sustainable, free-ranging, high-quality guidelines). This choice springs from the urge to respect animal life, their welfare, happiness, health, their environment and in so doing give our contribution to our own lives as well.
